Almost halfway between S. Vicente and S. Nicolau, we’ll find Santa Luzia, which is a deserted and arid island with some mountains and undoubtedly the most beautiful beaches in Cape Verde.

It is a natural reserve that has been well cared for and cherished by the NGO Biosphere 1 which has permanent collaborators working on inventory, preservation of species and also protection of its wealth and environmental diversity.

Because it is considered a natural reserve, visits to this island should be duly authorized. Right next to it are the adjacent islets -White and Shallow, the latter with a significant presence of different species of birds including the Lark - of - islet - shallow, unique in the world and also, a kind of gecko called Tarentola Gigas, also unique in the world.

This area is mainly frequented by fishermen however, it is visit by renowned scientists worldwide, students and organizations at the national level, together with the NGO Biosphere 1. At this point, I believe it is unnecessary to mention its enormous underwater wealth, this island enchants all who visit it. We have one thousand and one reasons to realize the importance of its environmental preservation, as well as the other nine islands of the archipelago.
