Boavista contains a true wilderness in the northwestern part of the island: the Viana desert. Just 1 km wide and 5 km long, is characterized by a white sand mixed with black soil grains.
The ocean winds carry huge volumes continuously sand the African continent, depositing them on the island of Boavista, for the effect of the shape of the terrain and the proximity to the mainland. This creates real desert sand dunes, interspersed with sparse vegetation and some very dark volcanic rocks.
The result is a rainbow of colors and expeditious passage of clouds projected on the floor a light switching and almost hypnotic shadow.
The lunar landscape, enhanced by the total absence of artificial sounds, this makes the desert one mandatory stop, with the advantage of being within walking distance of civilization, without danger of encountering poisonous animals or quicksand.
An adventure in the desert, has never been easier!
